FIR against Aprarupa Poddar for pushing a cop during NIA raid
A heartbreaking incident linked to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has shaken Jalpaiguri district. In Jagarnath Colony under Kharia Gram Panchayat of Sadar Block, a 60-year-old man, Narendranath Rai, allegedly took his own life after becoming distressed over issues related to the voter list. Family members said Rai had been deeply worried that his name did not appear in the 2002 voter list and feared the implications this could have for his wife’s future.
The tragic event has sparked grief across the local community. Jalpaiguri District Trinamool Congress President Mahua Ghosh visited the deceased’s home to offer condolences and express solidarity with the bereaved family. All India Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee also paid tribute to the mortal remains of Narendranath Rai, extending sympathy to his family during this difficult time.
The incident has reignited discussions around the anxiety and confusion surrounding the SIR process in several parts of the state, where fears of exclusion from voter lists have led to distress among citizens.
